PLAYOFF INFORMATION - THE ROAD TO VEGA$
Detailed Playoff Eligibility Rules & Info - click here!
At the end of each Session we hold Playoffs to determine the winner from each division. If your division has at least 5 teams then the top 3 finishing teams for each division plus a wild card team will earn a spot in the Session’s playoffs. The wild card drawing is weighted. The more points your team has, the more entries your team receives in the draw. This means that even towards the end of each Session, it is important to try and get as many points as possible regardless of what place your team is in. (If your division has only 4 teams then there is no wild card and the 1st place team gets a bye in the playoff semifinal week!) The result of the wild card draw will be posted on this page and the playoff format will then proceed as follows:
8-BALL & 9-BALL DIVISIONS
Playoff Semi-Final Week
1st place vs wild card team
2nd place vs 3rd place
Playoff Final Week
The two winning teams from the semis will play against each other and the subsequent winning team is the DIVISION WINNER!
All players on the division winning team receive trophies, the team also gets a large team trophy and the host location gets a plaque with all of the player's names on the plaque.
The division winner then advances to the $3,250 8-BALL & 9-BALL TRI-CUP TOURNAMENT which takes place at Park Slope Billiards on a Saturday afternoon following the end of each session. The bar teams play against the other bar teams, while billiard hall teams are pitted against billiard hall teams. This is a one match playoff just like the division playoffs but higher-level tournament rules apply. The winner of each of these matchups receives a cash prize, and is considered a "QUALIFIED TEAM", meaning they advance to our annual national qualifiers called the 8-BALL & 9-BALL BROOKLYN-QUEENS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS! This is the event that determines which of our QUALIFIED TEAMS will advance to Las Vegas! This event is held over a weekend each June at Park Slope Billiards in Brookyn on 7-foot tables. A minimum of three 8-ball teams and two 9-ball teams will win a free trip to Las Vegas in 2009!
QUALIFIED TEAMS -THE ROAD TO VEGA$ FOR SUMMER 2009!
We're almost halfway into our league year for the Road to Vegas 2009. This started with the Summer 2008 Session and will continue until the Spring 2009 Session. Keep the 2nd and 3rd weekends in June available if you are on a 'qualified' team. We will be sending a minimum of three 8-ball teams and two 9-ball teams to Las Vegas this year! Qualified teams are responsible to know all of the rules that pertain to them. These rules are located on pages 81-92 in The Official Team Manual (under the section Higher Level Tournament Eligibility Information & Rules) which all teams have been given a copy of. You can also download it from this site under the "Rules Info, By-Laws, Registration Forms, Newsletters" section of this website. All rosters for The Brooklyn-Queens Team Championships will be based on your SPRING 2009 ROSTERS with certain restrictions as noted in the Official Team Manual. WHAT HAPPENS TO TEAMS THAT DON'T QUALIFY?
We have a consolation tournament that has grown over the years to ensure that every team that plays throughout the year will get to play in at least 1 tournament if they so choose. As our league continues to grow, so will the prize money at this event. This is our yearly BEST OF THE REST TOURNAMENT! This is always held the weekend after July 4th weekend. This tournament will be held locally. To be eligible, your team must have played in the Spring Session and continues to play in the summer and your team must not have become a QUALIFIED TEAM in the past 3 sessions. This will be no less than a $5,000 cash tournament with a new feature: in addition to the cash that is distributed, the top 2 winning teams will also receive free hotel rooms and entry fees paid to play in the Third Annual $16,000 APA Northeast Challenge! |
